Experience that matters.

I am honored to serve as the Sheriff of Stokes County, North Carolina.

Prior to becoming sheriff, I was Chief Deputy for Sheriff Mike Marshall, served as second in command, and oversaw daily operations for each division within the Stokes County Sheriff’s Office. I’m currently in my 11th year with the Sheriff’s Office, having been a patrol deputy, detective, narcotics officer, member of the Special Response Team, and Lieutenant over the Criminal Investigations Division. As Sheriff I regularly coordinate with multiple law enforcement agencies—including our local, state, and federal partners—to achieve positive results for Stokes County.

Stokes born & bred.

I was born and raised right here in Stokes County, and graduated from South Stokes High School. At the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, I was a member of the Board of Trustees, Student Body President, and Student Body Treasurer. While at UNC Charlotte, I got involved in politics, became Chairman of the College Republicans, and built lasting relationships with Republican activists, party officials, and candidates. After graduation, I completed Basic Law Enforcement Training at Surry Community College and received multiple certificates from the North Carolina Justice Academy, beginning my career in law enforcement. I pursue ongoing extensive law enforcement training today.

Lifelong conservative.

Before becoming Sheriff I continued to be active in local Republican politics. As Vice Chairman of the Stokes County Republican Party and as a member of the North Carolina Republican Party Executive Committee, I volunteered for many campaigns across the state helping to get conservatives elected. I’m also an avid musician, and was the lead singer and mandolin player for Terry Baucom’s Dukes of Drive, scoring multiple number one hits on the bluegrass and gospel charts.

My wife, Katie, a high school English teacher, and I are members of Quaker Gap Baptist Church in King. In our free time, we enjoy getting together with our family, friends, and dogs, cooking and playing music, and going to UNC Charlotte football games.
